Essential Tips to Care for Your Hair in the Summer

After spending months cooped inside the house, most people spend more time outdoorspexels-photo-219569 during the summer. This is why most people associate the summer months with vacations, beach, and barbecue.

With the temperatures rising up to 3 digits in some parts of the country, you need to take precautions to protect your skin and your hair from the sun’s harmful rays.

Here are some essential tips to care for your hair in the summer.

Protect your hair from the sun

Most people are aware how damaging the sun is to their skin. But did you know that it can also be damaging to your hair and scalp?

The summer heat can wreak havoc on your hair, leaving you with dry hair and scalp. If you’ll be outdoors for an extended period of time, we suggest that you apply hair products that have a good amount of SPF in them. Or better yet, wear a cap or a scarf to protect your hair and scalp from the scorching sun.

Condition, condition, condition

Your may be in great shape, but you may notice that it becomes dull and lifeless in the summer. This is probably due to spending too much time in the pool or overexposure to the sun’s rays. Because of this, it is important to keep your hair hydrated through the hot months.

Regular condition is a must to keep your hydrated. This will help restore moisture into your locks, leaving you with soft, silky, and manageable hair.

Fight the frizz

As much as we love summer, it tends to aggravate frizz. Because of this, most women would pull their hair up into a pony tail. Not only will it conceal a bad hair day, it also helps keep their hair off of their face.

If you find yourself battling with frizzy hair most of the time, try applying a silicone-infused cream after washing your hair. This will create a barrier that will keep moisture from the air out and lock in your hair’s natural moisture. Remember, frizzy hair needs moisture – lots of it.

Avoid the heat

When the temperatures soar, the last thing you want is to blast your hair with a dryer. Sun damaged hair is extra fragile. By using heat styling tools, you are only causing further damage. Try to do away with heat styling tools and allow your hair to dry naturally.

Some people are having a hard time styling their hair without the heat tools. Now is the perfect time to put your hair products to work. Apply a leave-in conditioner or cream through the lengths of your hair. This will help nourish your hair while still keeping it in place. Look for hair care products with SPF.
