3 Reasons Your Hair is Dry and Brittle

Both men and women are susceptible to dry hair. Dry hair happens when your hair doesn’t retain moisture or doesn’t get enough of it. You may not realize it, but your daily routine may be what’s keeping moisture at bay.

Over time, you’ll be able to achieve your dreams of having the luxurious, silky hair of a shampoo model.

Here are 3 reasons your hair is dry and brittle.

Daily shampooing

Most experts agree that you can wash your hair up to 5 times a week. However, daily washing will leave your hair dry and brittle.

Regular shampoos contain ingredients that can be too harsh on your hair. Daily washing will strip your hair off its natural oils; thus, ruining your locks in the long run. If you have oily hair, try shampooing every other day and see what happens. For those with dry to normal hair, shampoo 2 to 3 times a week with a moisturizing shampoo.

Overexposure to the sun

Most people spend a lot of time outdoors during the summer. They’d go to the beach, lounge by pool or have barbecue parties with family and friends. However, overexposure to the sun will not only dry out your hair, it can also lead to damage.

If you know you’re going to spend several hours outdoors, we recommend that you wear a hat or a cap to protect your hair and scalp from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Also, use products with UV protection built in to prevent sun damage.

Frequent use of hot tools

If your morning routine involves blow drying and then straightening your hair, there’s a good chance that you have dull, brittle and lifeless hair. Give your hair a rest and create a style that doesn’t involve the use of heat styling tools.

On days when you need to use these tools, apply a heat protectant first. Also, never set your heat styling tools on high. If you do, you will only create more damage or burn your hair. You can create the same look on a low to medium heat.
